A joint committee should be formed, charged with scrutinising every government bill for its compatibility with the rights and interests of future generations, and investigating the extent to which government departments consider future generations in their operation. A joint committee, unlike a select committee, is made up of both MPs and Members of the House of Lords. This committee would be modelled on the Joint Committee on Human Rights, which is charged with scrutinising every government bill for its compatibility with human rights, and the UK’s compliance with its international human rights obligations.
