Governments could analyze deployed facial recognition systems to generate a continuous stream of information about forms of bias in deployed AI systems. This would provide the information policymakers need to identify any systems not complying to known standards, and would also incentivize private sector actors to reduce performance disparities, so as to avoid negative PR or policy repercussions.
