Opportunity: Director of NATO Policy

Global Shield is seeking a Director of NATO Policy to lead our organization’s advocacy efforts related to NATO. The Director of NATO Policy will focus on maximizing the benefits of NATO’s commitment to spending 1.5% of GDP on Article 3-related resilience initiatives. We are committed to supporting NATO’s Article 3 resilience initiatives as a means of reducing global catastrophic risk arising from all hazards.

About the role

The successful candidate will lead efforts to ensure that these new spending commitments strengthen collective resilience against global catastrophic risk from all hazards, including: chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare, naturally occurring and engineered pandemics, climate change tipping points, and emerging risk from the misuse of artificial intelligence.

This position is a unique opportunity to shape policy at the intersection of defence, security, and global risk reduction, by ensuring that NATO’s newest commitments are matched by practical, forward-looking action to enhance the preparedness of NATO and the wider world.

What you bring

The ideal candidate will leverage deep knowledge of and experience with NATO policymaking, with a particular focus on practical ways Article 3 spending can manifest into real-world resilience. You will be passionate about reducing global catastrophic risk through NATO and its Member States.

Do you have the relevant expertise and experience? If so, reach out to us for a confidential discussion about this opportunity.

Our desired timeframe is to have the Director of NATO Policy on board by early 2026. However, the search will continue until a successful candidate is found.
